Big News For Working Parents:
15 Hours Of Childcare Now Available For 9-Month-Olds & Up
From 1 April, thousands of 2-year-olds in England started accessing 15 hours of childcare as part of the first phase of the childcare support expansion so parents can juggle work and life.
NEW: The 15-hour offer is expanding to include eligible working parents in England with children who turn at least nine months old on or before 31 August. If you qualify, you can apply for up to 15 hours of childcare or early education per week over 38 weeks of the year. Read our FAQs to find out more about applying for the childcare hours.
If your child turns 3 or 4 on or before 31 August and you are an eligible working parent in England, you can apply for up to 30 hours of childcare or early education per week over 38 weeks of the year.
If you are a parent starting a new job or returning to work by the end of September following parental leave, you can apply now for childcare hours. Read our Education Hub blog to learn how to apply and what happens next.
Here’s what you need to know about the application process:
Once your application has been approved, you’ll get a code. It’s best to give your code to your provider the term before you would like to take up a place. If you haven’t used a childcare provider before or want to change it, find the right one and check whether they offer 15 or 30 hours of childcare.
There’s plenty of time to get your code to start a place in September. The deadline to apply for your relevant hours and get a code is 31 August. However, some providers will have different deadlines, so check with yours when it is best to give them your code.
Remember to reconfirm your details every three months on your gov.uk childcare account to continue receiving government childcare support.

- Application Process: Visit the government gateway Childcare service to submit your application.

- Find Childcare: Locate childcare providers near you.
- Code Submission: Provide your childcare provider(s) with the code from your childcare account, your National Insurance number, and your child’s date of birth.
